If you’re a hockey fan, this past week has been a feast of action, upsets and even a little rink-side chaos. From the Champions Hockey League to the IISHF Under 19s European Championships in Ternitz, Austria, and a whirlwind of preseason fixtures across Europe, here’s everything you need to catch up on before the next face-off.
Champions Hockey League: European Heavyweights Collide
It’s only Game Day 2 in the CHL, but the stakes already feel sky-high. Red Bull Salzburg edged a tense 3–2 win over Pinguins Bremerhaven, igniting the Salzburg faithful in a nail-biter. Meanwhile, Brynäs IF flexed their muscles with a commanding 5–0 shutout against Mountfield HK—now that’s a statement.
Kometa Brno delighted home fans with a 5–2 win over Odense Bulldogs, while ZSC Lions Zurich sent GKS Tychy packing in a 4–0 rout at Swiss Life Arena. Frölunda Gothenburg, another pre-season favourite, handled Lausanne HC 5–2, proving their consistency on both ends of the ice.
Elsewhere, there were plenty of goals to savour: Lukko Rauma and HC Bolzano served up a 7-goal thriller (Bolzano just snatching it 4–3), and KAC Klagenfurt squeezed past Eisbären Berlin 3–2. EV Zug rolled over Grenoble 5–1, and Ilves Tampere poured in seven goals in Belfast to down the Giants 7–4. KalPa Kuopio handled ERC Ingolstadt 4–1, Storhamar Hamar beat Sparta Prague 4–2, and Luleå Hockey outgunned SC Bern 4–2.

IISHF Under 19s European Championships: Young Stars Shine in Austria
The future of inline hockey looks dazzling if the action at Ternitz is anything to go by. The group stages saw some jaw-dropping scorelines and a hatful of goals.
On Friday, Switzerland started strong with a 6–1 victory over hosts Austria. Germany turned on the style with a 15–2 win over BiSHA Great Britain, while Switzerland handed BiSHA Great Britain a 15–2 defeat of their own. Austria and BiSHA Great Britain played a thriller, with Austria just edging it 9–8. Germany kept rolling, blanking Switzerland 5–0.
Saturday saw Switzerland and Germany continue their dominance: the Swiss beat Austria 12–4 and hammered GB 16–1, while Germany put 14 past BiSHA Great Britain and crushed Austria 13–2. Austria and GB drew 3–3 before Switzerland took down Germany 4–2.
The weekend wrapped with Switzerland beating Austria 8–3, Germany beat GB 15–0, and Austria finishing on a high with a 6–2 win over the Brits. In the final act, Switzerland won another high-scoring battle over Germany, 8–3. So many goals, so little time!
Massive congratulations to all the athletes who took part this weekend. Let the memories sink in and grow of the experience gained.

Preseason Fixtures: Goals, Glass & Grit
There’s nothing quite like preseason hockey for unpredictable drama. Coventry Blaze set the tone with an emphatic 7–4 win over MK Lightning. Glasgow Clan and Marseille found themselves in the most “hockey” of mishaps: after a big hit, the glass behind the goal shattered, causing a lengthy stoppage while the top class rink staff sorted things out. Once play resumed, Marseille took the spoils 3–1.
Guildford Flames fell to Amiens in overtime before a tight schedule saw them tackle Nottingham Panthers the next night. Concordia continued to be the thorn in the side of British teams, besting Dundee Stars 2–1. Glasgow Clan got their own back on Marseille in a 5–4 win (with the glass intact this time!).
Manchester Storm and Nottingham Panthers locked horns in Altrincham, with the Panthers prevailing 3–2. Sheffield Steelers hosted Cardiff Devils and claimed a 4–3 win, while the Panthers lit up Motorpoint Arena to hammer Amiens 6–0—complete with a crowd-pleasing scrap from Jordan Kelsall.
Sunday’s action didn’t disappoint: Cardiff and Sheffield clashed again, this time with the Steelers winning in overtime and on penalties, 3–2. Coventry kept the good vibes going with a 4–1 victory over Tilburg Trappers, who then routed MK Lightning 9–1 the next night to cap a wild week.
Stay tuned for more hockey drama and all the latest from rinks across Europe—because this season promises to be something special.
