Telford Team
Overview.
Club History and Performance Statistics.
The Telford Tigers are a National Ice Hockey League (NIHL) team established in 1985. The club originally competed as the Telford Tigers until 1999, after which it briefly operated as the Telford Timberwolves during the 1999–2000 season. In 2001, ice hockey returned to Telford under the banner of the Telford Wildfoxes, before the team reclaimed its heritage name, the Telford Tigers, in 2005. Since then, the club has continued to compete in the NIHL, fostering a tradition of resilience and community spirit. The timeline of names is as follows: Telford Tigers (1985–1999), Telford Timberwolves (1999–2000), Telford Wildfoxes (2001–2005), and Telford Tigers (2005–present).

Currently led by head coach Tom Watkins, the Telford Tigers concluded the regular season in 8th place in the league standings. The team qualified for the playoffs, but their campaign came to an end in the quarterfinals. Despite this, the Tigers demonstrated determination and competitive spirit.

Individually, the 2024 season saw remarkable performances from several key players. David Thomson stood out as a prolific scorer, netting 29 goals in just 31 regular season games—an achievement that highlighted his sharp instincts around the net. Supporting this offensive firepower was Eric Henderson, whose consistency and vision were instrumental to the Tigers’ attack. Henderson played all 42 regular season games, providing an impressive 55 assists and amassing a league-leading 84 points, making him the club’s top point-getter for the year.

Physicality was not in short supply, either, with Adam Harding accruing 96 penalty minutes, demonstrating both commitment and intensity on the ice.

During the playoff campaign, David Thomson continued to excel, scoring 5 goals in 6 matches. Rhodes Mitchell-King emerged as a crucial playmaker, contributing an assist in every playoff contest for a total of 6 in 6 games. Not to be outdone, Eric Henderson maintained his form with 10 points in 6 playoff games, once again leading the team in postseason productivity. Thomson’s competitive edge remained evident as he also accumulated 18 penalty minutes in the playoffs.

Between the pipes, stability was provided by goaltender Brad Day, who demonstrated remarkable endurance and reliability throughout the regular season by appearing in all 54 games and posting a save percentage of 86.62%. Supporting Day in the crease was Matthew Bloor, who made 5 appearances and registered a save percentage of 78.18%, while Matthew Byrne saw action in a single game, recording a save percentage of 55.56%.
When the intensity of playoff hockey arrived, Brad Day continued as the mainstay in goal, starting all 6 postseason contests and maintaining a solid 84.24% save percentage. Matthew Bloor contributed with one playoff appearance, achieving a 77.78% save percentage. This consistency in netminding added a foundation of security to the Tigers' campaign, underpinning the team's competitive edge in both the regular season and the playoffs.
