TEAMS OVERVIEW.

ALTRINCHAM ACES 

​

Founded originally in 1961, the Altrincham Aces have served as an influential presence in the development of hockey across the North West region. The team was re-formed in 2015 and currently calls the Altrincham Ice Dome home. Under the leadership of head coach Adam Summerfield, the Aces finished last season in 5th place, reaching the quarterfinals of the playoffs. Over the regular season, they recorded 12 wins and 13 losses, with an additional victory achieved in overtime.

BILLINGHAM BUCCANEERS 

​

Established in 2022, the Billingham Buccaneers are among the newest additions to the league, operating out of the Billingham Forum. Led by head coach Gary Dowd, the Buccaneers are closely affiliated with the Billingham Stars and maintain strong links with the junior and youth programmes. In their most recent campaign, the team secured an impressive 3rd-place finish in the regular season, posting a record of 19 wins and 7 losses. Their playoff journey ended in the semifinals, highlighting the rapid progress of this ambitious club.

 

BRADFORD BULLDOGS

Formed back in 1978, the Bradford Bulldogs bring decades of tradition to the NIHL 2 North scene. Playing out of the Bradford Ice Arena, the team is guided by a coaching trio of Andrew Brown, Hannah Gibson, and David Williams. The Bulldogs are recognised for a well-engineered junior development system, fostering emerging talent throughout the club. Last season, the Bulldogs finished 9th in the league, narrowly missing out on the playoffs. Their campaign concluded with 6 wins, 18 losses, and an additional defeat recorded in overtime.

COVENTRY NIHL BLAZE

​

Formed in 2007, the Coventry NIHL Blaze operate as an affiliate to the Coventry Blaze, fostering the next generation of hockey talent. Based at the Coventry Skydome and coached by Sean Alderson, the Blaze finished last season in 4th place, advancing to the semifinals of the playoffs. Their regular season record included 15 wins and 9 losses, with an additional win and loss each recorded in overtime.

DEESIDE DRAGONS 2 

​

Based at the Deeside Leisure Centre in Queensferry, North Wales, the Deeside Dragons 2 were formed in 2012 and are currently coached by Gary Shaw. In their most recent campaign, the Dragons endured a challenging season, finishing 10th in the standings and missing out on playoff hockey. Their record reflected 3 wins and 22 losses, along with 1 overtime victory—a season of rebuilding with an eye toward future progress.

KINGSTON SHARKS 

​

Founded in 1988 and playing out of Hull Ice Arena, the Kingston Sharks have a rich hockey heritage, having previously operated under the banner of Humberside Ice Hockey Club. The team is guided by head coach Alan Hague, who has steered the side through recent competitive campaigns. In the most recent season, the Sharks finished in 6th place, securing a spot in the quarterfinals of the playoffs. Their regular season record showcased 8 wins and 14 losses, alongside 1 overtime win and 3 overtime defeats, reflecting a squad defined by resilience and a drive to compete at every opportunity.

NOTTINGHAM LIONS 2 

 

Founded in 2021, Nottingham Lions 2 are one of the league’s more recent entrants and serve as an affiliate of the Nottingham Lions. Skating out of the National Ice Centre and coached by Craig Smith, the team continues to build its legacy within the NIHL 2 North. Last season, the Lions claimed a 7th-place finish, earning a berth in the quarterfinals of the playoffs. Their campaign saw them secure 6 wins and 18 losses, with 2 of those victories achieved in overtime—underscoring their competitive spirit and determination to develop the next generation of Nottingham hockey talent.

SHEFFIELD TITANS 

​

Founded in 2021, the Sheffield Titans are coached by Douglas Jordan and operate as part of the Sheffield Ice Hockey Academy—committed to developing young talent in the steel city. Last season, the Titans finished 8th in the standings and progressed to the quarterfinals of the playoffs. Their campaign ended with 6 wins, 18 losses, and a single overtime defeat, speaking to their resilience and determination throughout a challenging but formative year.

SUTTON STING 

​

Founded in 2009, the Sutton Sting have steadily risen through the ranks under the guidance of head coach Matt Jeffcock. The team trains at the Lammas Leisure Centre but calls Ice Sheffield home for their fixtures, blending rigorous preparation with a competitive edge on game nights. Their proudest achievement remains the 2017–2018 season, when they clinched the NIHL 2 championship.

In the most recent campaign, the Sting continued to display their formidable form, finishing 2nd in the league standings and advancing all the way to the playoff final, where they emerged as runners-up. Demonstrating consistency and dominance across the regular season, Sutton tallied an impressive 23 wins against just 3 losses, solidifying their reputation as perennial contenders and a beacon for aspiring hockey talent in the region.
