NIHL Weekend Round-Up: Opening Fixtures Deliver Excitement Across the Divisions

The opening weekend of NIHL action served up a host of thrilling encounters and competitive score lines, setting the tone for an exciting season ahead across all divisions.
NIHL 1 North Moralee Division
The Blackburn Hawks got their campaign off to a flying start with a 3-1 victory over the Leeds Knights NIHL1. Meanwhile, the Hull Jets and Nottingham Lions battled hard in a tightly contested match, with the Lions ultimately securing a narrow 4-3 win. The action continued as the Sheffield Scimitars faced off against Widnes Wild. In a closely fought game, Widnes Wild edged the Scimitars by a single goal, emerging 4-3 winners in what was a dramatic opener for both sides.
NIHL 1 South Britton Division
Down south, the NIHL 1 South Britton Division got underway as the Swindon Wildcats NIHL1 hosted the Solent Devils. The Devils put in a commanding performance, running out 6-1 winners against the Wildcats' affiliate team to lay down a marker for the rest of the competition.
NIHL 2 North Laidler Division
Saturday’s fixtures in the NIHL 2 North Laidler division saw the Sheffield Titans prevail 4-2 over the Deeside Dragons on home ice. The weekend’s action continued into Sunday with two entertaining clashes: Billingham Buccaneers soared to an 8-4 win against Sutton Sting, while the Bradford Bulldogs and Altrincham Aces served up a nail-biter, with Altrincham just pipping the Bulldogs 7-6 in a high-scoring affair.
