Tournament information


The BiSHA Men’s Great Britain squad travelled to Germany to face the best inline players each nation who participated in the European championships, put forward .The tournament was held in by Crefelder SC in north-west Germany, with the IISHF Men’s European Championships getting underway on Friday 26th September, coming to an end on Sunday 28th September.


Nations taking part in IISHF Men’s European Championships were Austria, Denmark, Germany, Great Britain and Switzerland.

Great Britain coached by Tom Dickinson who has a vast amount of knowledge of the game, from times spent playing as well as coaching,  travelled over to Crefelder to put on display what BiSHA has to offer and show our passion and love for the game.

Group stage


Each team faced up against one another once during the group stages. Germany finished in top spot winning all four of their group stage. In second place Switzerland won three out of the four games. Denmark placed third winning once. Great Britain finished the group stages in fourth, with one win and coming close the Austrians.


Game One


In game one GB were up against a formidable Germany squad. Germany took the 16-0 win in the opening game of the tournament for the BiSHA GB squad. Ross Newman picked up two penalties first one coming 0623 into the game, receiving two minutes and the second coming on 1317 another two minutes. Graham Regan also picked up two minutes on 2709. In net James Godfrey got the nod to start, sharing the net this game with Lewis Carter.


A hard-fought game, with Great Britain creating there fair share of chances. Germany a force to be reckoned with showing strong defensive display to keep GB at bay and record a clean sheet.


Game Two


In the second game of the day Great Britain had yet again had to face one of the major organisations in the world of inline hockey and that is Switzerland. The game ended with Switzerland taking the win 12-1. Three of the goals scored for Switzerland’s came on the powerplay.


The first goal of the tournament for Great Britain came from #77 Peter Cox who got his point scoring underway on 2842 played in the game. Peter was assisted by GB under 19s captain #19 Daniel Alabaster, who joins the Men’s squad. Sharing the net in this game was #31 Stuart Ashton and #73 Lewis Carter.


It is refreshing to see BiSHA young stars being given a chance on the big stage. Without a doubt this will help strengthen the future of the BiSHA organisation on the international stage.


Game Three


Game three of the tournament saw Great Britain line up against Austria. In this close encounter of the hockey kind Austria took the win on this occasion 6-4. GB took the lead through #8 Harsahib Deol on 0148, getting a goal early on in the first period. #14 Max Sweeney got the assist to help get the ball rolling. Austria then replied with two goals on 0516 and 0706, pulling the Austrians ahead 2-1.


Up stepped #77 Peter Cox on 1221 to tie the game back up. #45 Hayden Haggar supplying the goods for this leveller. Austria regained the lead on 1748 with #43 putting the Austrians back ahead. Austria then doubled their lead on 2156. Playmaker now turned goal scorer #45 Hayden Haggar stepped up to pull a goal back and bring GB back within one goal. A fifth goal was added for Austria on 3311 on whilst on the powerplay. Great Britain kept digging deep and on the thirty-eight minute mark #77 Peter Cox scored the fourth goal of the game, unassisted. Austria dealt the final blow on 3853 to hush any chatter of a late GB comeback.


Not the result some may have wanted but nonetheless, a great offensive display going forward with the points being shared between the squad, not to mention Peter Cox and Hayden Haggar both picking up two points. In net #47 James Godfrey stood tall and provided GB with strong presence in between the pipes.


Game Four


The final game of the group stage saw Great Britain come up against our North Sea neighbours Denmark. This was the one when all the hard-work, meticulous planning from coaching staff and grit and determination from GB prevailed. Great Britain ended the group stages victorious 4-2 against a strong and well set-up Danish side.


#31 Stuart Ashton was in net for this match-up. With the game still tied up at 0-0 after ten minutes played, in this even match-up #68 Andrew Baybutt got a goal on the board for GB on 13:33. #77 Peter Cox on a roll a proving to be a key player in the GB set up, provided the assist to add to his points tally.


Just eleven seconds later Denmark equalised, with the goal coming from #27 for Denmark. Great Britain proved to be decisive on the powerplay scoring the next three goals whilst having the man advantage.


Once more #68 Andrew Baybutt had a taste for goal and put Great Britain ahead on 18:02 to lead 2-1. Assisted by, that right you guessed it. #77 Peter Cox, acting as playmaker on this occasion. Must have felt like Déjà vu for the Danish netminder.


Three minutes later with the man advantage #08 Harsahib Deol got the third goal of the game on 21:39 for GB. With #68 Andrew Baybutt picking up his third point of the game, which is a great accomplishment at this elite level of the game.


Great Britain were not finished with the scoring as #77 Peter Cox got a goal of his own on 26:58. #45 Hayden Haggar popping up once again to add to his European championships points tally. Excellent work making the extra man advantage count whilst on the powerplay. Hats off to the Squad and Coaching Team.


Denmark added their second goal of the game through #24 on 39:24. Just 36 seconds later Great Britain Sealed their first win of the tournament in a proud moment for all those involved. The following from all the Great Britain Teams family and friends who travelled over to Germany got to celebrate in an emphatic win.


Knockout rounds recap

Game Five


In the first game of the knockout rounds, Great Britain were matched up with Germany, who were victors 14-2.


A massive change from the first game of the tournament were GB were scoreless and the Germans had a couple more goals. It goes to show the growth the squad has had in such a short space of time during this tournament.


The goals came late on Great Britain with the first goal coming from #45 Hayden Haggar on 38:14, assisted by Cameron Davidson-Wright for his first point of the tournament. Over a minute late #45 Hayden Haggar provided his teammate #77 Peter Cox to add the second goal of the game for GB on 39:15. The net was shared this game between #31 Stuart Ashton and #47 James Godfrey. GB could not advance any further at this stage and were now playing for places, facing up against Austria and Denmark.


Game Six


Up stepped Austria for another close match-up. Austria taking the win 5-3 on this occasion, halting the higher place finish that GB would have wanted.


Austria got the scoring started with a goal coming from #53 on 06:50. No less than 3 minutes later #46 Ross Newman grabbed himself a goal to tie the game up at 1-1, assisted by teammate and captain #7 Thomas Revesz.


Five minutes later Austria pulled ahead, this time goal coming from #51 on 14:46 on the clock.  A theme was appearing when once again the first goal scorer was hungry for another and #46 Ross Newman was at it again at equalised for Great Britain with 24:09 played in the game. Assisted by #66 Sam Hadden who got himself on the points scoring sheet for the tournament.


Austria regained the lead adding three goals without answer from Great Britain, with two goals coming from #53 securing his hattrick on 33:00 in the game. Austria’s #51 added a fifth on 35:57.

With under 10 seconds left, showing the fight right to the end spirit, #08 Harsahib Deol got a third of the game for Great Britain, assisted by #68 Andrew Baybutt. In between the pipes for this game were #31 Stuart Ashton and #47 James Godfrey stood tall and put on solid displays.


Game Seven


The final game of the IISHF Men’s European Championships 2025 saw Great Britain face up against Denmark, who had shown the development their squad had made as the tournament had progressed and was on display in this match-up.


Just nine seconds in and Denmark took the lead. It wasn’t until on 19:56 that GB pulled a goal back. #68 Andrew Baybutt got the goal assisted by #45 Hayden Haggar adding to his point tally. Denmark with the lead 5-1.


On 25:02 #46 Ross Newman pulled another goal back, captain #07 Thomas Revesz provided the assist on this time round. Six minutes later #77 Peter Cox got GB’s third of the game and great Britain could start to dream of a comeback. Unfortunately that  was not to be the case as 30 seconds later Denmark got their sixth goal of the goal, doubling the lead, that had been cut from five down to two. In what must have felt as frustrating situation in the game.


Great Britain added a fourth of the game on 34:57, with #68 Andrew Baybutt getting his second goal of the game, assisted by #77 Peter Cox who finished as top point scorer for GB with six goals, three assists throughout the weekend. #31 Stuart Ashton played in net for the final outing of the tournament.


A weekend full of individual and team triumphs for everyone involved in this BiSHA Great Britain set up. With an abundance of Determination, Development and Desire to prosper from day one speaks volumes of potential for the future of BiSHA and Great British hockey scene.
