EIHL:


If you were among the 2,802 in attendance at Braehead Arena on 17 September, you witnessed a thrilling clash between Glasgow Clan and Manchester Storm. The Clan came out firing, netting two goals in the opening period and adding another in the second, while Manchester Storm remained scoreless until later in the match. With Glasgow holding strong in defence during the final period, the match ended 3–2 in favour of the home side.


Glasgow’s scoring opened with Deven Sideroff, assisted by Heard and Teppo, at 06:22. Brett Neumann doubled the lead at 15:58, thanks to Langan and Hazeldine, and Rylan Schwartz made it three midway through the second period, assisted by Fram and Poolman.


Manchester Storm fought back—Joseph Nardi, with support from Haden and Hinam, struck at 32:42, and J.D. Dudek narrowed the gap even further, assisted by Ulett and Johnson, at 46:23. Their late rally wasn’t enough, and Glasgow Clan sealed the win.


NIHL:


The National League fixtures delivered excitement in abundance. Kicking things off on 12 September, Sheffield Steeldogs hosted Leeds Knights and took a decisive 4–1 victory. The following day, Peterborough Phantoms dominated Romford Raiders with an emphatic 8–2 win, while Hull Seahawks put up a sturdy performance against Solway Sharks, coming away 5–2 winners.


Leeds Knights secured a dramatic 3–2 overtime victory over Sheffield Steeldogs later that evening, and Swindon Wildcats put five goals past Telford Tigers in a convincing display. Meanwhile, Bristol Pitbulls played host to Basingstoke Bison, eventually succumbing 2–4.

Sunday’s fixtures saw Basingstoke Bison maintain their momentum, defeating Bristol Pitbulls 5–3. Hull Seahawks sent a message to their league rivals with a commanding 9–3 victory over Solway Sharks. Peterborough Phantoms made light work of Romford Raiders, winning 5–1, and Telford Tigers edged Swindon Wildcats 4–3 in a tight contest.

 

 

NIHL Divisions:

Ice Sheffield witnessed a remarkable performance from Deeside Dragons, who blanked Sheffield Scimitars 10–0 on 13 September. The Dragons repeated their dominance the following day at home, with a 9–0 shutout against the same opposition.


Elsewhere, Solihull Barons narrowly overcame Widnes Wild 4–3, Leeds Knights 2 snatched a 5–4 victory from Nottingham Lions 1, and Solent Devils got the better of Chelmsford Chieftains 3–1 at Riverside Ice and Leisure Centre. In junior league action, Chelmsford Warriors powered past Solent Junior Devils NIHL 2, winning 7–2, while Peterborough Phantoms 2 cruised to an 8–1 win over Cardiff Canucks.


The opening weeks of the British ice hockey season have set a high bar, with the Elite League and National League both serving up drama and high scores. Glasgow Clan’s narrow triumph over Manchester Storm showcased the competitive spirit at the top level, while standout performances from Peterborough Phantoms, Basingstoke Bison, and Deeside Dragons highlighted the depth and talent across the divisions. With fast-paced action and surprise results already on display, fans can expect plenty more excitement on rinks across the country as the season continues.
